Susie Mae Truitt, 92, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born to the late Clarence Rofe, Susie was raised by her devoted sister, Mae V. Adams.
A resident of Jonesboro for the past three years after moving from Gary, Indiana, Susie was of the Baptist faith. She had a passion for cooking, took pride in keeping a tidy home, and found joy in singing. Known for her radiant smile and warm spirit, she brought happiness to everyone around her. Above all, Susie cherished her roles as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Susie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence Eddie Truitt; her brothers, Will Rofe and George Rofe; her sons, Charles E. Truitt, Clarence Johnson Jr., and Lewis T. Dixon; and her daughter, Gloria Truitt.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her daughters: Linda D. Elliott and Far’d of Merrillville, Indiana, Shirley Truitt of Jonesboro, and Eve Truitt of Gary, Indiana; as well as many nieces, nephews, and uncles.
Susie is also survived by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and their families: Taronza and Kenneth Jones, Roy and Laranda Davis, Larry and Ashley Truitt, Steven and Karen Dixon, Cheryl and Wilton Carr, David and Tamara Dixon, Khari Dixon, Kamron Truitt, Marcus Truitt, Logan Truitt, Tanika Truitt, and others. Her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren include Eryane Burgess, Shemeka Holliman, Angie Truitt, Charles Truitt, Ulonda Truitt, Travis Truitt, Shannel Prunty, Traveon Lewis, David Prunty III, Steven Dixon Jr., Josh and Monique Friedman, and many more who carry on her vibrant legacy.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 9:00–10:00 a.m. at Emerson Funeral Home. A Homegoing Celebration will follow at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Reverend C.W. Campbell.
Susie will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Marcus Truitt, Roy Davis, Larry Truitt, Kenneth Jones, and Timmy Taylor.
Susie Mae Truitt’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and joy, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
