Sue (Mary Suzanne Bush) Lady, aged 91 of Jonesboro, died Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, TN following a short illness.

Born September 5, 1931, in Clinton, MO she was the daughter of Irving Lee and Margaret Huston Bush. Sue was the third of four children, following Elaine and Irv Jr., and preceding Jane.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband, Frank Lady, Jr. Survivors include their son, Frank III (Michelle) of Germantown, TN, and grandchildren Matt, Dan (Yolima), Bekah, Cassie (Grant), Margo (Matthew) and Lily Grace; great-grandchildren David, Audrey, Gideon, Ava, Judah, Gwen and Zeke.  Other survivors include Jane’s husband Harrell, Irv Jr.’s wife Darrene, and Frank’s sister Jo, and numerous nieces and nephews (and their children), including Noyl and Teresa Houston of Jonesboro.

Sue’s family moved to Waco, TX in 1948, where she completed her high school education before entering Baylor University, receiving her BA degree in 1953, and where she met and later married Frank Lady, Jr. from Trumann, AR. In high school she was a member of the National Honor Society and at Baylor she was active in student affairs and elected to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities in 1953. After leaving Baylor, Sue taught school briefly in La Marque, TX before returning to Baylor as Assistant to the Dean of Women. She and Frank married in 1955 and were stationed in Germany until 1957, while Frank served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army.

After completing military service they entered business in Harrisburg, AR where their son, Frank III, was born. They also lived briefly in Trumann before moving to Jonesboro in 1961, where Frank began his law practice in association with the former Judge Lee Ward. In addition to being a homemaker, from time to time over a period of 33 years, Sue was secretary to Frank in his law practice until his untimely death in 1996.

Along with Frank, Sue was an active member of Central Baptist Church, serving as a teacher, women’s Bible study leader, volunteering at various times in the church library, welcome center, encourager, church and senior adult choir member, and senior adult activities. She also was an auxiliary gift shop volunteer at St. Bernard’s RMC for several years.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home. A Celebration of Sue’s Life will occur on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Central Baptist Church, 3707 Harrisburg Road, Jonesboro. Visitation starts at 10:00 am, followed by an 11:00 am service conducted by Dr. Archie Mason. A private burial will occur at a later date at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
