Sue Cabe Houston passed away from this life November 18, 2025. She was born in Jonesboro, AR on August 28, 1931 to Luke and Lois Cabe.
She had a thirst for education and attended Rhodes College in Memphis, TN where she was a member of AOΠ sorority and later graduated from Arkansas State University.
She fell in love with the boy next door, Bob Houston, who was the love of her life and they married on September 9,1951. They enjoyed living in Hollywood, CA where she worked in the same building as Betty White, Burt Lancaster, and Eddie Albert and enjoyed seeing and talking to them.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, when it was on Main Street, where she loved being a Sunday school teacher and youth leader and enjoyed singing in the choir. She also enjoyed being a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She loved being a teacher at West School where she taught 4th grade for 17 years and retired from teaching to be with her beloved granddaughter Christy.
Sue had a passion for playing the piano and creating original music. She loved gourmet cooking and the family spent many enjoyable hours around the table listening to her sing and play the beautifully composed songs on the piano. She enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and especially her great granddaughter Samantha.
Words cannot express how much Sue was loved and cherished. The impact she had on our families and the students she taught will live on for generations to come.
The family expresses gratitude for Susan Carter of Home Health Professionals/Hospice and St. Bernards Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her parents Luke and Lois Cabe and her beloved husband Bob Houston. She is survived by her daughters Lin Minor (Rick) and Lissa Houston, her granddaughter Christy Schuchardt Frank (Rob), and great granddaughter Samantha Rose Frank. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Sue Truman and her niece Laura Pugh.
At Sue’s request, no services will be held and there will be a private burial. Memorial donations may be made to NEA Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
