Steve Farmer, 67, of Jonesboro, went to be with Lord and Savior on Monday, October 5, 2020. He had lived in Jonesboro since 1994, moving here from Kansas City, Missouri. Steve was very active in his Christian faith, his family and his community. He was the chairman of the Craighead County Republican Committee. He worked as the Superintendent of the Jonesboro Human Development Center. He was the coordinator for the Craighead County Crisis Response Team and was a former board member of the Arkansas Crisis Response Team. He served his country in the US Army, during the Vietnam War. His community interests were always in helping others. He served as a firefighter/chaplain with the Brookland Fire Department. He also served as Chaplain for the Jonesboro Fire Department. In 2010 he was voted the NEA Firefighter of the Year and the Brookland VFD Firefighter of the Year. His dedication to spreading the gospel through his actions was unparalleled in North East Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Judy Farmer, of the home; daughters, Audrey Haynie of Jonesboro; Candice Dunigan and Husband Johnny of Black Oak; Christina Davis and husband, Merritt of Trumann; brother, Merle Dennis of Greensville, North Carolina; sisters, Marlene Burgess of Palm Harbor, Florida; Elaine Hardin of Swansboro, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rick Plumlee officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with the JFD Honor Guard serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his compatriots of the Brookland Fire Department. Visitation will be from 5-7 Friday night at Emerson Memorial Chapel. Due to State of Arkansas protocol, COVID 19 rules will be in effect including facemasks and social distancing.
