Stephen J, Smela, 51, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, at his home of natural causes.
Stephen was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and lived in Flushing, New York, before moving to Jonesboro last year. He worked several years as a chemical operator for AkzoNobel, Inc. before becoming disabled.
Stephen enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and playing with his dogs. He loved the music of the 1970s and 1980s and enjoyed attending concerts in Madison Square Garden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Grace LaBrecque Smela.
Survivors include one sister, Diane Cantara of Jonesboro; one brother and spouse, Doug, Sr. and Colleen Smela of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania; 3 nieces: Meghan Cantara, Taylor Smela and Brynn Smela; and 1 nephew, Doug Smela, Jr.
All services will be private. There will be no visitation.
