Stephen R. Covington, 71, of Cherry Valley, died Friday at NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro. He was born and raised in Jonesboro and lived most of his life here. He graduated from Jonesboro High School and attended Arkansas State University. He was a member of the Christian Church, DOC. He was an accomplished woodsman and hunter. He loved to turkey hunt. He was a member of the Big Island Hunting Club. Mr. Covington was a farmer and had farmed in Arkansas and Louisiana. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Clay & Sarah Covington, Columbia, Louisiana; his brother, Robert L. “Skip” (Anita) Covington, Jonesboro; a grandson, Chase Covington; a granddaughter, Haley White; great grandchildren, Sadie White and Sofie White; niece and nephew, Kathleen (Harold) Copenhaver, Lee Covington; cousins, Tom (Virginia) Covington, Tim (Christi) Covington, Billy (Nedine) Wilkins, Jolyne Wilkins (Jim) McDowra; and several other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter B. & Marzelle Rees Covington.
The family wishes to thank Lowell & Kay Chrisco, Dr. William Hubbard, and the staff of NEA Baptist Hospital for the compassionate care and treatment of Stephen.
All services are private under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home.
