Stephen Lynn Brown, 61, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on November 9, 2022. Steve was born in Sikeston, MO on November 3, 1961 to Tommy and Martha Brown. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Steve was a longtime resident of Jonesboro. He played tight end on the 1979 Jonesboro High School championship football team, was the Lowell Manning award winner for the class of 1980, and was elected Mr. Hurricane his senior year of high school. Steve graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from Bethany Nazarene College (now Southern Nazarene University) in Oklahoma City.
After college, Steve worked for many years as a sales representative for VALIC and won multiple awards working in their service. Steve was an avid sports fan. He loved watching Cardinals baseball and Razorback football, and also loved coaching basketball and baseball. In his free time, he enjoyed watching westerns and listening to Johnny Cash. One of his fondest memories was coaching the Jonesboro All-Star baseball team to a championship at state and regionals. Most importantly, Steve loved spending time with his boys, Brady and Ben. He especially enjoyed coaching them in and watching them play sports. Steve loved being Brady and Ben’s father more than anything.
Steve was very dedicated to his church, Forest Home Church of the Nazarene. He was highly involved in the church softball league and children’s basketball leagues. He served on the church board for many years and taught several different Sunday school classes. He also was a leader in the H.O.P.E. ministry and children’s Bible quizzing. One of Steve’s greatest joys in life was serving others. Many former players benefitted from rides to practice and games given by Coach Steve.
Steve is survived by his children Brady Brown of Little Rock and Ben Brown of Dallas; brothers Stan Brown of Atlanta and Sam Brown of Jonesboro.
A memorial service will be held 6:00 pm Monday, November 14, 2022 at Forest Home Church of the Nazarene. A visitation will precede the service from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Burial will be private.
