Stella Louise Mathis, 81, of Bono, passed away on May 14, 2026, at her home. She was born in Lunsford on May 20, 1944, to the late Bessie Shipman. In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Pinto Mathis; her sister, Sue Beaty Buzard; her brother, William Buzard; and her half-brother, Claude Buzard. 

Stella was born and raised in Northeast Arkansas before moving to Iowa in her youth. In 1981, she moved her family back to Arkansas, settling in Bono. When she was younger and able, Stella loved being outdoors. She enjoyed walking, fishing, camping, and swimming. Stella always treasured her time in nature. If she couldn’t be outside, she would spend her time canning tomatoes and pickles. Stella was an avid country music fan. She enjoyed attending local live music performances and always had a soft spot for the king, Elvis Presley. Stella attended Bono Methodist Church but lived a modest life and mostly kept to herself. Most importantly, she loved her family, church family, and friends. 

Stella is survived by her son, Rickie Mathis; her daughter, Tammy Mathis-Medley; her grandchildren, Lauren Mathis-Cooper, Shawn Mathis, Lesa Medley, Junior Mathis, Amanda Mathis, and Craig Mathis; and 12 great-grandchildren.
