Stanford B. Taylor, 95, of Jonesboro, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.
Born in Bono, Stanford entered active military duty in the United States Army on June 27, 1941, and retired July 31, 1961, and was a veteran of W.W. II and the Korean War. He served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division during W.W. II. Stanford landed at Atsugi Airfield in Japan ahead of General Douglas McArthur’s arrival in August 1945 to begin surrender proceedings and occupation of Japan.
Following military service, Stanford worked 10 years in California for North American Aviation which is now Boeing Aircraft. He moved to Jonesboro in 1972 and was of the Baptist belief. Stanford was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Edward and Elizabeth Cook Taylor.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mauriece Fuller Taylor of the home, married April 4, 1959;
One sister-in-law, Patsy Gragg of Jonesboro;
2 nieces and their husbands, Cheryl and Gayland Bennett of Jonesboro and Teresa and David Burgess of Mumford, Tennessee; and a cousin, Bill Settles and his wife Dolores of Jonesboro.
A graveside funeral service with full military honors will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery with Donnie Settles, Vernie Harris and Leland Worlow officiating.
Honorary pallbearers include Tommy Glover, Joseph Stark, Bruce West, Pete Tharp, Richard Burns, Bill Settles, Pat Clines, Dean Turman, Phillip Loggins, Cleates Collins, Lowell Gragg, Rolland Wade, Ricky Turman, Justin West and Ralph and Doris Cheshier.
Visitation will be held Friday evening, 6-9, at Emerson Funeral Home.
