Sister Mary Genevieve Mcconnell, O.S.B.

Sister Genevieve McConnell, age 91, died at 2:35 p.m. on January 8 in Holy Angels Infirmary.

She was born on February 11, 1916, in Knobel, AR to Frank and Sophie (Engel) McConnell. She was the second of five children—two boys and three girls—all of whom are now deceased. She is survived by nieces and nephews.

She attended elementary school in Knobel, AR and High School at Holy Angels Academy in Jonesboro, AR and later attended Arkansas State University, where she obtained a BSE in Elementary Education.

She entered Holy Angels Convent in 1931, made her Profession of First Vows in 1933 and Final Vows in 1937.

Sister Genevieve spent her entire life in teaching the primary grades in Little Rock, Stuttgart, Blytheville, Jonesboro, Pocahontas, Paragould, and Muenster, TX where she taught for 38 years. She completed her 65th year of teaching before she retired in 2000.

Visitation and Rosary will be held at Holy Angels Convent Friday, January 11, at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 12, at 10:30 a.m. in Holy Angels Convent chapel with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus of Columbus of Blessed Sacrament Parish.
