Sister Carine Myers, age 79, died at St. Bernards Hospital, Jonesboro, AR on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 10:15 p.m.

She was born in Panama City, Panama on May 22, 1927. Her parents were Colonel Clarence C. Myers, Sr. and Frances (Staton) Myers, and was one of eight children. Two of her sisters were also religious of Holy Angels Convent: Sister Carmelita and Sister Clare. She is survived by three brothers: Clarence (Bud) Myers of Magnolia, Texas, Roger Myers of Bossier City, Louisiana, and Ramon Myers of Temple, Texas.

Because her father was in the military, Sister Carine moved around quite a bit. She received her elementary education in San Antonio, Texas, Hot Springs, AR, and Macon, Georgia. She attended Holy Angels Academy in Jonesboro during her high school years.

In September of 1942, she entered Holy Angels Convent. She made her Profession of Vows on August 15, 1944, and her Final Vows on August 15, 1948. Later she celebrated her Silver Jubilee as a Religious on August 15, 1969, her Golden Jubilee on August 15, 1994 and her Diamond Jubilee on July 11, 2004.

Sister Carine attended Siena College, Memphis, Tennessee; St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri; DePaul University, Chicago, Illinois; and Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, Arkansas. She received a degree in elementary education.

She taught school for 26 years in Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana. In 1971 she returned to Arkansas to take care of her elderly parents in Hot Springs.

After the death of her parents, she was assigned the job of Sewing-room supervisor, coordinator of purchasing, and supervisor of housekeeping and maintenance. After giving up these duties, she took her daily turn of phone duty at the front desk.

During all this time, she helped weekly at the Food Pantry in Jonesboro, helping distribute food to the needy. This was one of her great joys. She also enjoyed reading, listening to music, working crossword puzzles, doing crafts, and collecting clothing for the needy.

Rosary and visitation will be at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 19 in Holy Angels Convent Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 20th in Holy Angels Convent Chapel. Internment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery on the grounds of Holy Angels Convent under the direction of Emerson
Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus of Blessed Sacrament Church, Jonesboro, Arkansas.
