Shirley Dent

Shirley Dent, 82, of Jonesboro passed away Friday, January 17, 2020 at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital. She was born December 19, 1937 in Bono to the late Cletus and Faye Lakey. Shirley was a member of Nettleton Baptist Church and did volunteer work for their food pantry. She worked 44 years for Southwestern Bell and after retirement Shirley worked for St. Bernards and then NEA Hospital. She most loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Corene Pinchback and a grandson Benjamin Aaron Dent.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Clarence “Scoot” Dent of the home; sons, Randy (Jodi) Dent of Jonesboro, Brad (Barbara Schmidt) Dent of Florida; sister, Jean Cline of Jonesboro; 7 grandchildren: Angela (Matt) Hutsell of Little Rock, Sarah (Jason) Whittington of Little Rock, Brandon (Kristin) Dent of Collierville, TN, Sydney Elise Dent of Portland, OR, Kasadie Schmidt, Ryan Schmidt and Bolton Schmidt all of Florida; 8 great grandchildren and best friend, Kay Gibson of Jonesboro.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 2:00 pm in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Brady Canright and George Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery with active pallbearers being Brent Cline, Todd Cline, Darren Dent, Walt Seabaugh, Joe Lee and Brandon Dent. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Southwestern Bell and Sanctuary Sunday School Class of Nettleton Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service.
