Shirley Ann Simmons

October 5, 1941 — August 21, 2015

Shirley Ann Simmons, 73, of Jonesboro, passed away Friday, August 21, 2015, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.

Born in Lepanto, Shirley lived in various cities before moving to Jonesboro a few years ago. She was a homemaker and an active member of Walnut Street Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, spending time with her grandchildren and being involved in her Sunday school class and church activities. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents: Connie E. and Eva Peek Nelson.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Douglas Simmons of the home;
1 son, Geoffrey Douglas Simmons (Stefanie) of Weatherford, Texas;
2 daughters: Debbie Lynn Smith (Mark) of Jonesboro and Theresa Christina Aasen (Blair) of Bradford;
1 brother, Gene Nelson (Pat) of Rockford, Illinois
3 sisters: Barbara Marks (Gary) of Monroe Center, Illinois, Linda Brooks (Mark) of Alexander, Arkansas and Cindy Dunn (Craig) of Bradford, Arkansas; and
10 grandchildren: Anna Hitchcock (Riley), Ian Aasen, Abigail Smith, Alexis Smith, Victoria Simmons, Alyssa Aasen, Aubrey Smith, Catie Beth Simmons, Isabella Simmons and Benjamin Simmons and a life time of friends and dear loved ones.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Walnut Street Baptist Church with Glen Putman, Jerry Parker and Curtis Shatley officiating. Burial will follow in Arnold Cemetery near Swifton with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers include: Grey Falanga, Courtney Schmidt, Riley Hitchcock, Craig Dunn, Blair Aasen, Ian Aasen

Visitation will be held from 12-2 pm Monday, August 24, 2015 at Walnut Street Baptist Church.
