Shirley Ann Allen

October 1, 1948 — December 4, 2023

Shirley Ann Allen, 75, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on December 4, 2023, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, surrounded by her family. Born in Dyess, Arkansas, to the late Arvill and Ruby Simms.

Shirley spent her early years in Dyess before embarking on a journey that took her to Texas, Georgia, and Louisiana. For the past decade, she called Jonesboro home, where she cultivated lasting memories with her family and was of the Baptist faith.

Professionally, Shirley was an over-the-road truck driver for many years, navigating the highways and byways with skill and determination. In her leisure time, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, indulging in crossword puzzles, cheering on game shows, and engaging in heartfelt conversations with those around her.

At the core of Shirley's being was her devotion to family. She cherished the moments spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, John Allen, as well as her sisters Barbara Leffler and Freda Cooper, and her brother, Jimmy Simms. She is survived by her son, Tim (Sherry) Long of Jonesboro; two daughters, Stacey (Scott) Dusmer of Covington, Louisiana and Laura Long of Bono; sister, Glenda (Bud) Jackson of Jonesboro; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will hold a private celebration of Shirley's life at a later date, cherishing the memories they shared. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests considering donations to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, a place that provided comfort and care in Shirley's final days.
