Sheila Irene Coy

Sheila Irene Coy, 57, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at North KC hospice house in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on November 18, 1967, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was born to Doyle W. Coy and Shirley L. (Painter) Waller.

Sheila enjoyed the simple pleasures of country living. She loved animals of any kind and especially cats. Sheila looked at her fur babies as her children. Sheila rescued many animals due to being homeless, starving or wounded.  She enjoyed remodeling her home in her spare time. She enjoyed having friends over for movie night, and entertaining her friends. More than anything, she cherished spending time with family and friends, especially her partner, Dawna Walton of the home, and her sister, Debbie, with long phone conversations of sister-talk. Without hesitation, she fixed things she didn't break. Sheila battled stage 4 cancer, she fought hard. Sheila solely believed in our Lord and He shall prepare a place called home.

Sheila started working in her career at an early age as a bouncer at a night club in Kansas City, Missouri called Tootsies. She later became a night security guard and worked there for a year or so. She had the opportunity to work at Honeywell Federal manufacturing where she made ID badges for the employees and later advanced up in her position as a supervisor for the day shift. Starting March 2018, Sheila worked for Kansas corrections as 1st Sargent at Lansing correctional facility until present.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley L. (Painter) Waller and her grandmother, whom she called mama, Rose Coy.

Sheila is survived by her sister, Debbie (Coy) Yearber of Jacksonville, Arkansas and her partner, Dawna Walton of the home, Kansas City, Kansas. Several nieces and nephews: Shanna Wooldridge of Jonesboro; Brandon Jones of Hot Springs, AR; Heather Rogers of West Plains, MO; Thomas II of Popular Bluff, Mo; and Kate McKillop of Lake Stevens, WA.

There will be no visitation and services will be private under the care of Golden Gate Funeral and Cremation Services in Kansas City, Missouri.
