Sena Rudy Winters, 82, of Jonesboro, died Tuesday evening, July 7, 2009, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
Born in Smithville, Mrs. Winters lived several years in Lynn before moving to Jonesboro in 1971. For 19 years, she and her husband operated W.W. Winters General Merchandise in Lynn. After moving to Jonesboro, Sena worked as an internal auditor for Sears in Jonesboro.
Sena was a member of Central Baptist Church of Jonesboro where she served on staff. Following retirement she was a volunteer for the church. Sena was well known for the various greeting cards which she made and sent to friends. Each card was hand crafted and lettered by Sena.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and was preceded in death by her husband, Wayning Winters.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Gary and Donna Winters of Jonesboro, pastor of Jonesboro Baptist Church;
Her daughter: Waynona Avery, a retired employee of the Jonesboro school system, who resides in Covington, Tennessee;
1 brother, Fred Gene Rudy of Jonesboro, who is retired from Arkansas State University;
1 granddaughter, Kimberly Winters, an employee at Arkansas State University;
4 grandsons: Andy Adams, an environmental attorney who resides in Wichita, Kansas, Wayne Winters, pastoral assistant with Jonesboro Baptist Church, Pastor Nathan Winters, First Baptist Church of Thermopolis, Wyoming, Pastor Paul Winters, Medford Baptist Temple of Medford, Oregon; and
7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Sena’s 4 grandsons officiating and her son Dr. Gary W. Winters, Sr., administering the service. A graveside committal service will follow at 3:00 in the Smithville Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Sunday evening, 5-8, at Emerson Funeral Home.
For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the Smithville Cemetery Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
