Sandra Lee Bittle

Sandra Lee Bittle, 74, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born in Nettleton on December 19, 1948, to James Thomas Wood and Luna Belle (Moore) Wood. In addition to her parents, Sandra is preceded in death by her infant sister, Reba.

Sandra is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Hubert Bittle of Jonesboro; son, James (Elizabeth) Bittle of Jonesboro; sisters, Shirley Wheeler of Jonesboro and Ruby Coble of North Little Rock; beloved grandchildren, Lydia and Samuel Bittle; numerous nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.

Sandra was a lifelong resident of Jonesboro and worked for the Nettleton School District for over 27 years as a library assistant. A passionate supporter of Nettleton athletics, Sandra loved attending sporting events and cheer competitions throughout the years.

Sandra was a devoted member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She always looked forward to going to church and visiting with her church family. For many years, Sandra was Pleasant Grove’s United Women of Faith chapter secretary. Sandra sent cards to shut-ins and others as a special mission because she wanted them to know they were in her and the church’s thoughts and prayers.

Sandra was a tender-hearted person, especially concerning children. She sponsored many children with the Salvation Army every Christmas, something she enjoyed doing with her grandchildren, Lydia and Sam. She also enjoyed ringing the Salvation Army bell at Christmas when her health allowed.

Sandra loved crossword puzzles and was an avid reader; she especially loved reading the newspaper. She loved reading almost as much as she loved sports and Nettleton. Above all else, Sandra loved her grandchildren. They were the light of her life, and watching them grow up gave her so much joy.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Edward Pruett officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, with Andy Brodell, Mike Larson, Clark McDaniel, Gerald Patterson, Roy Patterson, Doug Reesor, Kevin Snyder, and Timothy Taylor serving as pallbearers.
