Samuel Lloyd Thompson, 84, of Jonesboro, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born on November 20, 1939, in Monette, to the late Linder and Lorene Thompson. Sam spent his younger years in Monette before eventually settling in Jonesboro in 1977 after residing in Newport.
Sam was a man of the Methodist faith. He was known for being a voracious reader. Among his cherished pastimes, Sam particularly enjoyed gardening and fishing, often sharing these moments with his beloved grandson, Harrison, who held a special place in his heart.
Above all, Sam exemplified selflessness, always prioritizing the needs of others over his own. His kindness and generosity touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Thompson, and two sisters, Vinne Lou Greenwald and Janice Albert. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Mandy Thompson, of the home; two loving daughters, Renee (Kevin) Brady and Robin (Bill) Bregy, both of Jonesboro; his cherished grandson, Harrison (Alex) Bregy of Jonesboro; as well as his brother, Bobby Thompson of Little Rock, and sister, Betty Mabry of St. Louis, MO.
A visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 pm at Emerson Funeral Home, where friends and loved ones can pay their respects.
Sam will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his life. May he rest in peace.
