Samuel Matthew O’Neal died at home in Jonesboro, Arkansas on Sunday, March 9th, 2025 following years of bravely fought health battles. Sam was born in Jonesboro on September 24th, 1958 to Rose Blanton O’Neal and Lewis O’Neal. He was a 1976 graduate of Jonesboro High School and later earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Arkansas State University in 2021.
In his youth, Sam spent much of his time outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and horseback riding, most often on the family farm. This time outdoors gave him a heart for animals, owning and loving several dogs throughout his life. He also loved motorcycles and cheering on the Indians (later Red Wolves).
Those who knew him knew he had a huge personality and remember his mischievous streak as a prankster.
He worked in auto sales for a time, then as a bail bondsman until his declining health forced an early retirement.
He is preceded in death by his parents Rose and Lewis. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, his brother Patrick of Springdale, sister Mary (Matthews) of Arkadelphia, sons Jordan of Jonesboro and Matthew of Hickory Ridge, and two grandchildren Kayli and Sammy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to NEA Humane Society. Private service.
