Samuel “Mack” Howerton, 86, of Jonesboro passed from this life on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. He was born to the late Curtis and Lula Howerton on December 28, 1934 in Paragould. Mack retired from E. Ritter Telephone Company in Marked Tree in 1996. He owned and operated Poinsett Communications for over 55 years helping farmers with their communication needs. Mack was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church. He enjoyed listening to gospel music with his wife, Betty. They would often take trips to Nashville to attend different gospel concerts. Mack was always active in the church, serving as Deacon, music director, and singing in the choir for most of his life. In addition to his parents, Mack is preceded in death by his brother, Leon Howerton.
Mack is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Betty Howerton of Jonesboro; son, Darryl Howerton (Judy) of Jonesboro; daughter, Karon Fields (Brad) of Jonesboro; sisters, Ann Howerton of Paragould and Barbara Kennemore of Paragould. Mack also leaves behind six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
The visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Emerson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Emerson Funeral Home with Grey Falanga officiating. Burial will follow at Brown’s Chapel Cemetery in Paragould with Mack’s grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers.
