Sammy Lee Johnston, 73, of Jonesboro passed from this life Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He was born on July 12, 1944 in Doniphan, Missouri to the late Wilburn Johnston and Lucille Kellough Conrey.
Sammy lived in the Jonesboro area for most of his life after coming from Sedgwick. He was of the Baptist Belief. Sammy was the owner of many years of the Sam’s Market in Jonesboro. Sammy loved to go fishing, driving his tractor, mowing his yard, and watching westerns. Most of all Sammy loved spending time with his grandkids.
In addition to his parents, Sammy is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ruby Carolyn Johnston.
Sammy is survived by his living bonus mother, Velva Johnston of Tupelo, MS; son: Richard (Terri) Johnston of Jonesboro; daughter: Tonda (Keith) Baxter of Jonesboro; four brothers: Harry Conrey, Ricky Conrey, Gary Johnston, and Anthony Johnston; six sisters: May Booth, Janice King, Sheila Nettles, Reba Bailey, Karen Parker, and Brenda Horton; four grandchildren: Nicholas (Kristen) Johnston, Bailey (Brett) Hufstedler, Presley Johnston, and Hunter Johnston; and two great grandchildren: Peyton Johnston and Haven Downs.
A visitation will be from 1-2 pm Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Emerson Funeral Home.
A memorial service will follow the visitation at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Emerson Funeral Home.
