Ruth Doris Stephens

Ruth Doris Stephens, 97, of Jonesboro, passed away from this life on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at St. Bernard’s Hospital.  Doris was born January 31, 1926 to the late Jess and Vettrell Faulkner Stephens.  She retired from Bell South Telephone Company after forty-five years of service.  She loved the farm life, her family, bluegrass music, going to auctions and traveling with her friends.  Doris was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two sisters, Elfreda Stephens Yates and Joan Stephens Hall; husband, Ross Elder; close friend, James Gammill; two nephews and a great-niece.

Survivors include a niece, three nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 am Tuesday, June 20th at Emerson Funeral Home, followed by services with Rev. Harold Russell officiating.  Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be family and friends.
