Ruth Gage Lawson

September 20, 1918 — January 23, 2015

Ruth Gage Lawson, 96, of Jonesboro died Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. She was born in Egypt and lived most of her youth in the Egypt and Herman area before moving to Jonesboro. Ruth was the youngest child of Rufus C. and Ona “Onie” Watkins Gage. She was a member of Central Baptist Church for over 65 years and was very active in the church. She retired from General Electric. She loved to play cards and board games, and excelled at knitting, crocheting and sewing. Ruth dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Mitchell Lawson; her parents; one brother, Clyde Gage; three sisters, Ophelia Bennett, Bertha Kee, and Wanda Rogers.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law; Brenda Lawson Lane (Jim) and Debbie Lawson Ledbetter (Michael) all of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Mica Lane, Darren Lane, Mitchell Ledbetter (Laura) and great grandchildren, Alexis Lane, Payton Lane and Knox Ledbetter; and special friend, Erika Long.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Monday, January 26, 2015 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Mike Martin officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at Herman Cemetery with Jim Lane, Michael Ledbetter, Mitchell Ledbetter, Darren Lane, Wade Wilkins and Butch Roberts serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 3-5 Sunday afternoon, January 25, 2015 at Emerson Funeral Home.
