Ruth Sheffield Jackson, a long time resident of Jonesboro, AR, died peacefully September 25, 2014, at her son’s home in Paragould, AR.
Born in Mammoth Springs, AR, December 6, 1930, to Virgil Scott Sheffield and Dorothy Mae Sheffield. She was united in marriage to Samuel Buren Jackson, March 3, 1948, in Greene County, AR. He preceded her in death November 3, 2012. They were married for 64 years.
Ruth attended Greene County High School and Greene County Tech High School. She retired from Liesure Arts after 16 years. She loved her family and enjoyed gardening and quilting.
Ruth had been a member at Woods Chapel United Methodist Chapel for many years and a current member at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jonesboro, AR. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Jonesboro, AR for over 50 years and a member of the West Mart Extension Homemakers Club, Jonesboro, AR for several years.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Carolyn J. Hames and husband Ron, of Spring, TX, her son, Robert (Bob) S. Jackson and wife Peggy, of Paragould, AR, a brother, Doyle Kenneth Sheffield and wife Vonna, of Victoria, Canada, a brother, Lloyd Ray Sheffield and wife, Ima, of Russellville, AR, six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Eva Pauline Smith, a brother, Donald Arland Sheffield and two infant great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Ruth Sheffield Jackson will be held September 29, 2014, at 10:00 AM at Emerson Funeral Home, 1629 East Nettleton Road, Jonesboro, AR. Family friend, Pastor Rex Darling, will officiate the service. Burial will follow at the Woods Chapel Cemetery, CR 728, off of Highway 49 S. Relatives and friends are welcome at the Emerson Funeral Home for visitation Sunday, September 28, 2014, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons, Rusty Hames, Eric Hames, Ryan Hames, Jose Tristan, David Pigue, Ron Pigue, Jr., Alex Pigue, Ashton Pigue, and Clint Pigue. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Pigue, Eric Pigue, Ty Garner, Scott Jackson, and the members of the West Mart Extension Homemakers Club of Jonesboro.
The family wishes to express a special “Thank You” to Dierksen Hospice, especially to Nikki Perales and Terri Bowlin for the excellent care given to their mother.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, National Center, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231.
