A long time resident of Jonesboro passed away Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Skilcare Nursing Center. Mrs. Goodman was born in Ashland, Mississippi on June 7, 1914 to Lucy Meadow Hunt and John Thomas Hunt. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Herbert Goodman, who was a well known civic and business leader in Northeast Arkansas and owner and operator of Frolic Outlet Shoe Stores. She was also preceded in death by one son, Herbert Isaac Goodman.
She is survived by two daughters, Roselyn Goodman Horner of Jonesboro and Annette Goodman Powell and husband, Chilton Powell of Mobile, Alabama. Mrs. Goodman is also survived by four grandchildren, Rose Havilyn Horner Baker and James Isaac Horner of Jonesboro and Elizabeth Karcher and Angela Marie Terry of Mobile, Alabama. She had six great-grandchildren, Samuel Goodman Baker, Spencer Isaac Horner and Alexandra Semmes Horner of Jonesboro, Katherine Elizabeth Karcher of New Orleans, Louisiana, Chilton Jacob Terry and Joseph Emory Terry of Mobile, Alabama.
Mrs. Goodman was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught for a number of years in the pre-school program and was a member of Mrs. Sally Blanton’s Bible Study group and Sunday school class. She was a dedicated member of the Saint Bernard’s Regional Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary Service group, receiving her thirty year pin.
There will be a private burial service at Temple Israel Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro. There will be no visitation. The family requests that memorials be sent to the charity of choice.
