Roy Lee Gant was born on November 18, 1946 in Harrisburg, Arkansas to Lucy Bell and Andrew Gant Sr. and lived in Weiner, Arkansas. He attended Booker T. Washington high school in Jonesboro, Arkansas and afterwards worked for various local farmers in Weiner until moving to Kansas City, Missouri. There he worked in manufacturing and soon met and married his former wife and still friend, Gloria Jean Griffin in 1967. They have three children RoJeana, Michelle, and Roy Jr. After his marriage ended, Roy moved to Jonesboro, Arkansas, met Fannie Burnett and they was blessed with son, Jamie. Roy worked with his younger brother, and closest friend, Toy Norsworthy Jr. at JACS TV, and Appliance in Jonesboro, until his retirement in 2005. Roy was a common man and a nice person, who was always friendly to everyone. If asked for a favor, he tried not to ever turn anyone down. He often said “that’s how he receives his blessings back for God”. Sometimes, he would give to others before doing for himself.
Roy re-married and is preceded in death by wives, Phyllis Gant and Doris Williams Gant. He was also married to childhood sweetheart Viola Cornelius Gant, and former wife Betty Gant.
On March 25, 2024, Roy departed this life and entered into eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children Rojeana (Joe), Michelle, Roy Jr. (Cindy) and Jamie Gant, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 4 step-children (Phyllis), 3 stepchildren (Viola), his brother Don (Cathy), and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
