Roy E. Upton

Roy E. Upton, 83, of Jonesboro died Monday evening January 4, 2010 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center.
He grew up in northeast Arkansas and then lived in Michigan for 37 years where he was an outside salesman for NAPA Auto Parts. After retirement, he and Lois moved back to Arkansas in 1988. He was a WWII Navy veteran. Roy was a member of Community Fellowship Church where he loved serving as an usher and greeter.
He and Lois spent nearly every summer going back to Michigan where he enjoyed fishing and playing golf.
He was preceded in death by his parents Izza and Saphronia Haddock Upton, four sisters and two brothers.
Survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lois Vernell, married February 5, 1946.
Two sons; Roy D. Upton and wife Helen of Louisville, Kentucky, and Robert L. Upton and wife Kathy of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Two daughters; Donna McMurry of Springfield, Virginia and Tamyra K. Storer and husband Michael of Springfield, Missouri.
Nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday January 9, 2010 at Emerson Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Dave Burgess officiating. Burial will be at Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Donald Smith, Michael Storer, Brian Hosman, Jonathan Upton, David Storer, Luke Storer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Dycus, Bill Hosman and the people of Community Fellowship Church, who knew and loved Roy.
Visitation will be from 5-7:00 P.M. Friday, January 8, 2010 at Emerson Funeral Home.
