Roy Byrd

Roy Byrd, age 86, of Bay passed away Friday night April 1, at his home, after a brief illness. He was born November 19, 1924 at Bay to the late Elva and Mary Brock Byrd. He was a retired farmer, who loved the Lord, his family, baseball, farming the land and Bay, Arkansas where he had lived his lifetime. Roy served on the school board and served as a deacon and an elder of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his faithful and devoted wife of 68 years, Joyce Byrd of the home, two sons and daughters in law; David (Tina) Byrd of Jonesboro, Matt (Tabitha) Byrd of Pocahontas, three daughters and two sons in law; Laquida (Mrs. Jack) Williamson of Batesville, Jean (Mrs. Howard) Grisham of Jonesboro and Jane (Mrs. Tommy) Lamberson of Jonesboro.
He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Helen (James) Nix of Bay, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends and neighbors. The Byrd family wishes to especially thank the kind and caring staff of Dierksen Hospice, who were so helpful and supportive in the final months of Mr. Byrd’s life. The ladies Courtney Snow, Andrea Gibson, Caroline Gibson and Sophia Perry have our gratitude and love for helping fulfill dad’s wishes of living at home until going to his eternal home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son Roy (Buddy) Byrd, three dear sons in law, Sister Yvonne McDaniel, Step Mother Rebecca Byrd, Step Brother, Wendell Jones, and Step Sister Ouida Moon.
Funeral service will be at 3:30 P.M. Sunday April 3, at the Bay Church of Christ with Tim Wilkes II and Marvin Rickett officiating. Burial will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park, with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
Visitation will be from 1:30p.m, until service time at the church.
Active pallbearers will be Theron Isaacs, Jerrod Grisham, Blake Lamberson, Brett Lamberson, Bill Ballard and Kelvin Poole.
Honorary pallbearers will be William Ballard, James Trotter and Caleb Byrd.

While his labor on this earth is done, his works will live on.
