Rosemary Taggart, age 84, of Augusta, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Rosemary was born to Charles and Ernestine Hughes on May 28th, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was known for her warmth, wit, and dedication to her family and friends. Her community loved her, and her gracious personality touched the lives of all who knew her.
Rosemary graduated from Arkansas State University in 1965 with a degree in Journalism and was a proud founding member of the Chi Omega Omicron Zeta chapter. When she graduated, she returned to Augusta with her husband, Thomas “Tommy” Taggart, to build a life together and establish their family home. She and Tommy worked together at Taggart and Taggart Seed, where they strengthened their bond and their ties to the community. Her love for her family was boundless. Known lovingly as “Mimi” to her grandchildren, she created a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth where everyone felt welcome.
She treasured hosting family and friends at their riverfront home, where gatherings were filled with joy and togetherness. She treasured watching her family enjoy the river from the River House deck, with her orchids in bloom nearby and hummingbirds dancing in the distance. In her later years, these simple joys—family, nature, and a well-made cocktail—became her cherished rituals. She took particular pleasure in teasing her grandchildren, often reminding them that if too much time had passed, she might “hardly recognize them.” Her quick wit and talent for storytelling, whether factual or playfully embellished, endeared her to all who knew her.
Rosemary is preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Taggart, and sister, Sue Wendt. She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Taggart Williams (Scott), her son, Talmage Taggart (Lynn), and her grandchildren, Tiffany Taggart Riley (Chandler), Hunter Taggart Williams (Summer), Trace Roberts Taggart, Marissa Kay Williams, and Savannah Lyn Williams. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings, Billy Hughes, Diane Bartleson, and Ricky Hughes. Rosemary’s charm, love, and loyalty are a legacy that will continue to shine through her family and friends, who will carry her memory in their hearts. She is deeply missed and will be fondly remembered by those fortunate to know her.
