Mrs. Roselyn Goodman Horner, a long-time resident of Jonesboro, passed away on April 20 th , 2021. Mrs. Horner was born in Union City, Tennessee on May 18 th , 1940 to Ruth Hunt Goodman and Herbert Goodman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Herbert Isaac Goodman and her late husband, James Verlon Horner.
She is survived by her children, Rose Havilyn Horner Baker and James Isaac Horner and wife Angela, all of Jonesboro. Mrs. Horner is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Samuel Goodman Baker, Spencer Isaac Horner and Alexandra Semmes Horner. She also leaves behind a sister, Mrs. Anette Goodman Powell (Chilton G. Powell, Jr., deceased) of Mobile, Alabama and 2 nieces, Elizabeth Shearer(Jeff) and Angela Terry and their families.
Mrs. Horner was raised in both the Jewish and Baptists faiths. She attended the Temple Israel and also the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro and most recently enjoyed services at Nettleton Baptist Church. During her lifetime, she had many roles, but the most rewarding was that of mother, grandmother and teacher. She taught various history courses at Jonesboro High School for many years and was actively involved in the Teacher Retirement Association. Since retirement, Mrs. Horner has enjoyed spending time with family and friends and caring for her beloved grandchildren. Mrs. Horner loved her neighborhood and neighbors and was involved with the West End Neighborhood Association. She was also a dedicated supporter of the NEA Food Bank and the Jonesboro Church Health Center.
There will be a visitation from 5:30-7:30 pm on Thursday April 22 nd , 2021 at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Arkansas. There will be a private burial service at Temple Israel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Ag for Autism, 3000 Prosperity Drive, Jonesboro, AR 72404 or PO Box 16060, Jonesboro, AR 72403 c/o Mr. Danny Graham.
