Ron Bennett

Ronald Glenn Bennett, 69, departed this life Saturday, April 23, 2011 at NEA Baptist Hospital.

Ron was born in Jonesboro October 6, 1941. He graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1959 and Arkansas State College in 1965. He was a First Lieutenant in the Arkansas Army National Guard. He married Deloris Robinson in 1967, and they were married almost 44 years. They had three children, Robin Jeff, and Jason.

Ron was a Jonesboro businessman who owned Guaranty Insurance Agency for many years, and was on the Board of Directors for Jonesboro City Water and Light. Ron gathered funding and initiated the baseball program at Jonesboro High School in 1988, and one of his grestest joys in his life was coaching his son’s little league baseball teams. He served on the Jonesboro School Board for 12 years. He was a lifetime member of the Fisher Street Baptist Church which later became Highland Drive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher for over 20 years. He was a pillar of his church community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, H.B. and Ophelia Bennett.

He is survived by his wife, Deloris of the home; a daughter, Robin and her husband Donald Braden of Jonesboro; two sons, Jeff Bennett of Jonesboro and Jason and his wife Jo Margaret Bennett of Memphis; a brother Bob Bennett of Little Rock; two sisters Nina Parker of Jonesboro and Phyllis Olson of Pinehurst, NC; four grandchildren, Jordan Bennett and Zachary Braden of Jonesboro and Cate and Gage Bennett of Memphis; a great granddaughter, Naty Bennett; and many other family members and loved ones.

Visitation will be held at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro from 5-7 P.M. Monday.

Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. Tuesday at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Johnny Hutchison officiating. A private burial will follow.

Memorials may be made to the Highland Drive Baptist Church building fund, 515 East Highland Drive, Jonesboro, AR 72401, in memory of Ron Bennett.
