Roger Allen McMillan, Jr., 82, of Jonesboro, passed away August 31, 2026 at the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. He was born on March 6, 1944 in Mena, Arkansas to Roger McMillan, Sr. and Wilma Barber McMillan and was raised in Acorn, Arkansas in the Ouachita Mountains.

Roger graduated from Panama High School in Panama, Oklahoma. After graduating from Oklahoma State University School of Veterinary Medicine, he married the love of his life, Barbara Earhart.

After practicing veterinary medicine in Booneville and Russellville, Arkansas, he moved to Jonesboro in 1970 working for the Arkansas Health Department as a meat inspector. He worked in various private practices in Jonesboro before opening his own practice that eventually became Vetcare where he served many clients over the years. He opened Century Cabinets & Millwork in 1989 where he built custom cabinets and specialty wood pieces for several businesses in Northeast Arkansas as well as private homes. Before he retired in 2024, he returned to veterinary medicine by serving the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society for over a decade.

“Pop”, as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren, enjoyed a lifetime love of nature and instilled that love in his children and grandchildren. From hiking, cycling, fishing, and overnight camping trips, he enjoyed sharing his love of nature and the outdoors. He was an avid sports fan of any sport his children or grandchildren participated in. He was always present on the sidelines and in the bleachers, the perfect example of what it means to “show up.”

Roger was a member of Jonesboro Christian church since 1978, serving as a deacon and song leader for several years.

Roger will be remembered fondly for his sawdust covered attire, callused hands, and sense of humor. His legacy will be never stop learning, take care of Mother Nature, and show up for the ones you love.

In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his sisters, Janice Beaver and Barbara Coogan, and sister-in-law Ruth Ann McMillan.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara McMillan of the home; daughters, Shanda (Blake) Rogers of Jonesboro and Shelle (Jay) Morgan of Jonesboro; son, Roger (Leslie) McMillan III of Jonesboro; brothers, Dr. James McMillan of Conway and Steve (Kathie) McMillan of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Joseph (Jessica) Waleszonia, Jacob Waleszonia, Jason Morgan, Drew (Danielle) Morgan, Cade (Abby) Rogers, Cydney Rogers, Reese (Lukas) Rambo, Micah McMillan, Hayden McMillan, and Miles McMillan; great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Ella Fitzgerald; several nieces, nephews; a lifetime of friends; and many cherished colleagues.

A visitation celebrating Roger’s life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel. The family will hold a private service and burial at a later date.
