Robert Allen Payne Sr., 93, of Jonesboro, died Thursday, June 3, 2021 at St. Bernard’s Regional Medical Center. He had lived in Jonesboro since 1952. He was a member of the Forrest Home Nazarene Church. He was a member of the Million Dollar Round table for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. While working for Metropolitan Life, he was the recipient of many numerous awards. During WWII he served his country in the US Army. For many years he was an airplane pilot. There are so many stories still going around in his circle of family and friends, which would keep you entertained for a while. His passion was golf. He was most happy when he had his clubs in his hands. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Steinegger Payne; his parents, Henry and Lelia Payne; brother, Burnus Payne; and sister, Emmaline Payne.
Survivors include his son, Robert “Bobby” Payne Jr.; daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Williams; Beverly “Bev” Adams and her husband Phillip, all of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 Monday, June, 7, 2021 at the Forest Home Church of the Nazarene with Ken Stallings officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at Keller’s Chapel Cemetery with Lance Shepard, J.J. Ryan, Phillip Adams, George Clogston, Bryan Shepard, Kaut White serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 1:00 O’clock until service time.
