Robert E. Barnes 90, of Harrisburg passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 at St. Bernards Hospital. He was born December 15, 1932 in Fruit Hill, Kentucky to the late Luther Richard and Bunice Aris Barnes.
Robert “Bob” lived a very interesting life. He traveled all over the U.S. holding multiple jobs, but the most adventurous was joining a carnival at age 17 and staying in that line of work for 26 years. The 1st carnival was the Wallace Brothers Canada Show. Wallace Brothers was a 50 car railroad show. Many years were spent with the Rogers Brothers Shows out of Minnesota. Thereafter he went on to own his own small carnival in south Texas with the love of his life, Darlene J. Barnes.
After leaving the carnival business he joined Mapco Petroleum and worked his way up to Regional Sales Manager. Bob spent 5 years in Anchorage, Alaska, then transferred to Memphis where he retired shortly thereafter.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a daughter, Donrua Hulsey.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Barnes; 2 daughters, Linda Evans, Laronna Ables; multiple grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Emerson Funeral Home from 10:30-11:30 am.
Burial will be Friday, December 1, 2023 at Greenwood Cemetery in Porter, Oklahoma.
