Robert E. Adkins

Robert E. Adkins, 85, of Jonesboro, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro.

Robert was born in Brinkley and lived there where he was the staff manager for Reliable Life Insurance Company for 19 years before moving to Jonesboro in 1969. After moving to Jonesboro, Robert became Co-owner of Home Insurance Agency and then was a co-founder of Town and Country Insurance Agency where he worked several years before joining Guaranty Insurance Agency. Robert retired with over 50 years of service in the insurance profession.

Robert was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro where he served as a deacon and usher and was a member of the Jerre Hassell Sunday school class. While living in Brinkley, Robert served several years on the Brinkley Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of both Brinkley and Trumann Lions Club and was a life member and past trustee of the Jonesboro Elks Lodge.

Robert and wife Anna were members of the Friday night Supper and Dance Club for many years and was preceded in death by 2 sons, Donnie Wayne Adkins and Robert Kevin Adkins, and by Robert’s sister, Ann Adkins Boyd.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Anna Thorne Adkins of the home;
1 daughter, Melanie Adkins Verser of Jonesboro;
2 sisters, Dottie Taylor of Leonard, Texas and Betty (Roy) Mitchell of West Plains, Missouri;
3 grandchildren: John William (Diane) Verser, Susannah Grace Verser and Matthew Robert Verser, all of Jonesboro;
3 great grandchildren: Adam Robert Verser, John William Verser, II, and Elle RayeAnne Thielemier, all of Jonesboro; and
1 special feline buddy, “Socks.”

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in Emerson Memorial Chapel with Dr. Bruce Tippit, Kathy Holler and Jerre Hassell officiating. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery in Paragould.

Active pallbearers include Tommy White, Steve Schmidt, Joe Haynie, David Bettis, Dr. Doug Maglothin, Terry Lawrence, Mike McDermott and Charles Johnson. Honorary pallbearers include Donald Timms, Clay Kenward, Onus Millsap, members of the Jerre Hassell Sunday School Class and Robert’s coffee shop friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday afternoon from 1:00-2:00 in Emerson Chapel.
