Robert Charles Grear

Robert Charles Grear, 85, of Bono, Arkansas, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at his home.

Born in Jonesboro, Illinois, Robert lived several years in Somerville, New Jersey, before moving to Bono in 1981. He was a retired General Manager of the U.S. Money Order Agency of the U.S. Postal System. He worked several years for IBM prior to working for the postal service and was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Robert was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro where he was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and the Fourth Quarter Singers. While living in Washington,DC, he was music committee chairman of Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church. He served on the Board of Trustees of Somerville United Methodist and enjoyed playing the trumpet.

Robert was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the American Legion. He enjoyed working in his home shop repairing “everything,” and was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Meeker Grear of the home;

1 son and daughter-in-law: Robert M. and Christine L. Grear, and one daughter and son-in-law: Gayle L. and Frederick J. Wied, IV, all of Somerville; 2 grandsons: Frederick Wied, V, and Alexander Robert Wied, both of Somerville, and one step grandson, Brian Sipler of Flemington, New Jersey.

A memorial service will be held Friday morning at 11:00 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church of Jonesboro with Revs. John Miles and Patty Soward officiating. Private family burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery with Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Honorary pallbearers include members of Chapter 535 of NARFE and the Friendship Sunday school class of First Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.
