Richard A. Martillo Sr., 72, of Jonesboro died Sunday April 1, 2012 at NEA Baptist Hospital. He was born in New Cassel, Long Island, New York and had lived in Jonesboro for 37 years moving here from New York. He came to Arkansas State College from Coffeeville Community College where he was an All American Football Player and in the Raven Hall of Fame. He loved the New York Giants.
He graduated from Arkansas State College with a minor in History and a B.A. degree in Physical Education, and 33 hours in special education. He was a football player for Arkansas State College # 32 where he led the nation in punting. He was a volunteer fireman for the Westbury Fire Department in Westbury Island, New York. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and an owner and operator of White Glove Cleaning Services.
He was preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Jenny Sherry Martillo and 2 sisters; Jean Martillo and Anna Marie Martillo.
Survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Iva Martillo of the home.
Sons; Rick Martillo (Becky), Tony Bushong (Marie) and Joshua Bushong (Becky) all of Jonesboro.
Daughters; Diedra Martillo and Jennie Wilson (Scott) all of Jonesboro.
Brothers; Anthony Martillo of Syosset, Long Island, New York and Robert Martillo of Huntington Beach, New York.
Sister; Lois Martillo of Jonesboro.
20 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday April 4, at Emerson Memorial Chapel, with David Wilson officiating. Burial will be follow with Emerson Funeral Home in charge.
Pallbearers will be Jakeb Bushong, Dillon Bushong, Mark Rainey, Terry Beggs, Coy Tarkington and Gary Needham.
Visitation will be from 5 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Emerson Funeral Home.
