Richard M. “Dick” Moore, 89, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at his home.
Born in Ravenden Springs, Mr. Moore lived much of his life in Jonesboro. He was retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company with 36 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of W.W. II.
Richard was a member of Fisher Street United Methodist Church and an avid environmentalist. He held memberships in the World Wildlife Federation and the Nature Conservancy. One of his conversation projects involved constructing a trail of 34 bluebird nesting boxes which has helped prevent bluebirds from becoming extinct in the Jonesboro area.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tomye Jean Bell Moore; by his parents, Newton and Pearl Grace Blackwell Moore; by 2 brothers: Don and Bill Moore; and by 2 sisters: Dot Moore and Frances Knight.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law: Patricia and Gary Kifer of Jonesboro;
Numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Nancy Rainwater officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Active pallbearers include Tony Kifer, Eric Kifer, Phillip Kifer, Leon Hedger,
Ronnie Hedger and Huey Rushin. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Mark Cates and Dick Darouse.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening, 5-7, at Emerson Funeral Home.
