Rex Shreve, 90, of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at St. Bernard’s Medical Center. He had lived in Jonesboro for nine years, moving here from Hot Springs. Rex was a Southern Baptist preacher and a member of Nettleton Baptist Church. He pastored churches in California, Texas, and Arkansas. He taught Bible study at Wesley on the Ridge, and was active in children’s ministry. Rex was a graduate of Williams Baptist College and served in the US Army Signal Corp during WWII.
Mr. Shreve was preceded in death by his wife Bobbie Jean Harris Shreve; father, Ruben Richard Shreve; step-mom, Pearl Andrews Shreve; four brothers and two sister.
Survivors include sons, Michael Shreve and wife Gwen of Weiner; John Shreve and wife R.J. of Hot Springs; brother, Reverend Richard Shreve, Jonesboro, Louisiana; sister, Mary Tramell of Russell, Arkansas; grandchildren, Cecilia Gauf, Mica Shreve, Brittany Shreve, John Shreve Jr.; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Brother Stan Ballard and Billy Joe Hoots officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Weiner with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his Nettleton Baptist Church Sunday School Class. Visitation will be from 9-11 on Saturday, prior to the service.
