Reverend Carl Lee Winkles Jr., 85, of Trumann passed from this life Monday, February 22, 2021, at NEA Baptist Hospital, just two days after the love of his life, Shirley Mae Winkles. He was born to the late Carl Lee Winkles Sr. and Allie Mae Winkles on November 12, 1935, in Tippah County, Mississippi. Bro. Sonny (as he was known) lived most of his life in Trumann after spending his childhood in Mississippi. He was a member and pastor at the Church of God of Prophecy for over 60 years.
Carl was a hardworking, honorable man in everything that he did; and, his word could be trusted by anyone. He worked many years at Singer, Mid South Manufacturing and Bilco. He loved having a nice vehicle and was so enjoying the brand new truck he had been driving. He was a perfect example of what God instructed a husband, father and grandfather to be. He was totally devoted to his dear wife; and, as they had always wished, they went to Heaven together. He was also a true follower of Jesus Christ; and, spent most of his life committed to sharing God’s Word.
In addition to his parents, Carl L. Winkles Sr., and Allie M. Lawson Winkles; Carl is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Mae Winkles; son, Ricky Winkles Sr.; daughter, Patricia Winkles Whitsett; and special cousin James Winkles.
Carl is survived by his three children, Carolyn (Doug) Qualls of Trumann, Sherri (Randy) Tribble of Jonesboro, and Pastor Randy (Lori) Winkles of Tucson, Arizona; daughter-in-law Bonnie Winkles of Trumann; son-in-law Jerry Whitsett of Harrisburg; brother, Franklin (Barbara) Winkles of Jonesboro; special cousins, Frances (Frank) Mask of Dumas, Mississippi, Baxter Winkles of Manilla, and Ike (Sible) Williams of Myrtle, Mississippi; 15 grandchildren, Jamie Qualls, Nicole Cunningham, Ricky Winkles Jr., Jeremy Winkles, Jaylee Tribble, Jake Tribble, Heather Whitsett, Joshua Whitsett, Ryne Whitsett, David Winkles, Brandon Winkles, Tailynn Winkles, Shania Winkles, Abigail Winkles, and Joshua Winkles; nineteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
