Rev. Jerre Rose Hassell, 84, of Jonesboro, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 in Little Rock.
Born in Pampa, Texas, Rev. Hassell lived most of his adult life in Arkansas. He was a Southern Baptist minister and was the pastor of several churches in Arkansas including Geyer Springs Baptist Church in Little Rock, Central Baptist Church in North Little Rock, and First Baptist Church in Stuttgart. He also served several years as Chaplain at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
Brother Jerre also served as an interim pastor at numerous Arkansas churches including Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock. Bro. Jerre loved each and every congregation as if he were their full time pastor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen R. and Maude Elizabeth Crane Hassell, and two brothers, Glen Hassell and Bill Hassell.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dabney Hassell of the home;
2 daughters: Patti (Hank) Chandler of Woodstock, Georgia and Nancy (Murray, Sr.) Benton of Jonesboro;
5 grandchildren: Erin (Paul) Street and Tripp (Megan) Chandler, all of Woodstock, and
Murray Benton, Jr., Meredith Benton and Maggie Benton, all of Jonesboro; and
2 great grandchildren: Rex Street and Henry Chandler.
A memorial service will be held Monday, October 20, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Rev. Willard Zeiser and Rev. Ed McDonald officiating.
A reception will follow the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
