Raymond (Ray) Anderson was born on June 1, 1941, in Houghton Lake, Michigan, to Roy & Ruth (Merritt) Anderson. Ray died peacefully at home, surrounded by family and in the arms of his loving wife. He went to Heaven to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on April 24, 2009. His church home was the First Nazarene Church of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Raymond and Wendy (Hampton) were married on February 14, 1985 and were blessed with 25 Christmases together.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roger & Robert (Bob) and after seeing the face of Jesus we know the next thing Ray did was go fishing on a beautiful crystal river, with Bob his fishing buddy, whom he dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy and granddaughter, Kelsey Pope, of the home; two brothers, Richard of Alabama and Russel of Memphis; children: Randy (Cathy) Anderson of Washington, DC, Daryl (Maggie) Anderson of Colorado Springs, Jennifer Pope of Bono and Heath (Shandera) Weishuhn-Anderson of Holly, Michigan; grandchildren: Michelle, Samantha, Alyssa, Nicolas, Brian, Corey, Cooper, Kelsey, Mason & Emma Grace.
He will be greatly missed by his many buddies, nephews, cousins, sister-in-law & brother-in-law Tom & Ruth Brown, father-in-law Melvin Hampton, friend Sandra Anderson, and his precious nieces Amanda Brown (our own private nurse), Angela Anderson, Evelyn Davis and our very special niece Misty Churchwell (whom Kelsey & Wendy couldn’t survive without).
Ray worked at the GM plant in Grand Blanc, Michigan, and retired in 1993 after 30 years of service; during that time he was a Boy Scout Leader, volunteered with United Way and routinely donated blood to Red Cross. He was an avid motorcycle rider and took several cross country trips. His passion was woodworking and he left the family with many heirlooms for generations to come.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Emerson’s Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, April 29th 6-8 p.m. and chapel service the following morning at 10 a.m. Rev. Roger Hutcheson will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations to The Learning Center in Jonesboro, the First Church of the Nazarene, Jonesboro, AR, or a charity of your choice.
