Ray Hobgood

July 9, 1929 — May 4, 2006

Ray Hobgood, 76, of Jonesboro, died Thursday evening at home of natural causes.

A native and life-long resident of Jonesboro, Mr. Hobgood was a salesman for Fox Brothers Hardware of Pine Bluff for 34 years and then worked for Franklin Hardware in Jonesboro for 10 years before retiring.

He served 8 years in the National Guard and Army Reserve and was a member of the Huntington Avenue Methodist Church where he was active in the United Methodist Men. Mr. Hobgood was preceded in death by a daughter: Renaee Hobgood Shover in 1996.

Survivors include:
His wife of 55 years: Martha Hobgood of the home;

Son-in-law: Emory Shover of Centreville,Virginia;

Sister-in-law: Nancy Murphy Owens of Jonesboro; and

Nephew: Robert B. Murphy, Jr. of Fairfax, Virginia.

Graveside funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 at Keller’s Chapel Cemetery with Kathy Holler officiating with Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers include: Joey Spangler, Hugh Harrington, Lewis Byersdorf, Bill Cook,
Fabian Dussex, and Gordon Seaton.

Honorary pallbearers include: Charles McCrackin, Carroll Gott, Big Lots employees,
Dr. Craig McDaniel, Dr. Alex Kosloff and Kelly Pope.

For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to St Bernards Hospice Program, 2813 Forest Home Rd., Jonesboro, AR 72401.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5-7 at Emerson Funral Home in Jonesboro.
