Ramona Jean McGinnis, 87, of Jonesboro passed away on March 8, 2025 in Batesville. Ramona was born in Big Lake to Opie and Herschel Tatum on August 22, 1937. She went to school at Lost Cane. She married Robert Wayne McGinnis on September 5, 1953 in Osceola. She graduated from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro with a degree in Library Science. Ramona worked for many years as the director of Kid’s Kingdom Daycare. She was a longtime member of Jonesboro Worship Center. While there, she taught in the Sunday School Dept. as well as serving on staff in the Care Ministries Dept. Ramona was most passionate about her Christian faith and her walk in the Lord. She also loved working in her yard and painting.
Ramona is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wayne McGinnis of Jonesboro; daughter, Monica Lindley of Jonesboro; her parents, Opie and Herschel Tatum of Concord; and one brother, Clyde LaRue Tatum of Jackson, Missouri.
Ramona is survived by one son, Marty McGinnis of Jonesboro; one daughter, Michelle McGinnis Soliz of Lake Charles, Louisiana; sisters, Annetta Prince of Batesville and Brenda Atwill of Olive Branch, Mississippi; brothers, Herschel Dean Tatum (Janice) of Marion, Stephen Tatum (Pam) of Batesville and Ronnie Tatum of Batesville; grandchildren, Joshua Lindley (Louise) and Emily Lindley Sorensen (Reece) of Salem, Oregon, Matthew Ewing (Natalie) and Taylor Ewing Trahan (Jim) of Lake Charles, Louisiana as well as great-grandchildren, Wyatt Ewing, Asa Ewing, Josiah Lindley and Sorenson twins (coming July 2025).
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Mountain Meadows Health and Rehabilitation, Arkansas Hospice and Jonesboro Worship Center.
A visitation will be held Wednesday March 12, 2025 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Jonesboro Worship Center. 1507 E Matthews Dr, in Jonesboro.
The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. with Marty Spurlock officiating. Burial will follow at Nettleton Cemetery. Pallbearers include Stephen Tatum, Matthew Ewing, Marty McGinnis, Alan Tatum, David Tatum and Marty Spurlock.
Memorials may be given to St Jude Children’s Hospital.
Following the graveside ceremony, the Jonesboro Worship Center would like to invite friends and family back to the church for food and fellowship to celebrate the life of Ramona.
