Ralph Winston Mattix passed away on February 23, 2015. He was born October 27, 1928 in Valley View to Caspian and America Hamilton Mattix.
He worked thirty five years for Comet Rice Mills in Harrisburg as a manager and rice buyer, a job that he loved and couldn’t wait to get to each day. He was the first president of the Jonesboro Boating Club starting in 1958. He served as a chairman of Craighead Forrest Park Commission from 1958 – 1973. He loved boating and being a part of making Craighead Forrest Park what it is today. He loved motorcycles, fast boats, and after he retired in 1987 his Winnebago motor home and getting to travel from coast to coast seeing the ocean and many other things he had never seen before.
Later in years after losing his eye sight to Macular Degeneration and could no longer drive. He enjoyed riding his Electric Scooter to McDonalds meeting with his coffee friends each day.
He is survived by his wife of forty three years, Pattie Solomon Mattix of the home, a special niece: Melissa Broadaway and niece Tonya Dunn; two sons: Danny Mattix of Jonesboro and Mark Mattix of Florida; one daughter: Teresa Mattix; two step children: Perry and Robin Ruesewald of Jonesboro; two brothers: Charles Ed Mattix of Colorado and Dale Mattix of Jonesboro; one sister: Janice Mattix of Jonesboro; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 9:30 am – till the start of service time at Emerson Memorial Chapel.
Service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Kenneth Winningham officiating and burial will be private with Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
