Ralph Cheshier, 96, of Jonesboro, died Sunday morning in Jonesboro.
Ralph was born in Jonesboro to Charlie P. and Ada Hodges Cheshier, the seventh of eight children. He was a U.S. Army veteran of W.W. II where he was a member of the First Infantry Division (The Big Red One). Ralph was awarded a total of 3 bronze stars, one for each of the following Campaigns: Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Central Europe and Rhineland. Following the war, Ralph and his family lived a few years in Cleveland, Ohio, before returning to Jonesboro where he lived the remainder of his life.
Ralph was a long-time farmer and also retired from FMC Corporation in Jonesboro. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and Jonesboro Masonic Lodge #129. In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Doris Burdyshaw Cheshier, married April 29, 1944;
his daughter, Paula Barnett of Jonesboro;
his son, Ralph Allen Cheshier (Denise) of Jonesboro;
4 grandchildren: Elizabeth Bittle (James), Rebekah Snyder (Kevin), Tarah Merritt (Curtis) and Kaleb Cheshier, all of Jonesboro; and
7 great grandchildren: Lydia Bittle, Samuel Bittle, Josie Snyder, Brayden Prestidge, Brodey Prestidge, Landrie Tibbs and London Tibbs.
Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in Pleasant Grove Cemetery with Rev. Jim Stillwell officiating.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home.
