Phyllis J. New

Phyllis J. New, 74, of Jonesboro, went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, September 20, 2020.  She had lived most of her life in the Jonesboro area and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.  Phyllis was an avid supporter to Make-a-Wish Foundation and St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.  As a member of the board of directors for the Salvation Army, she was an advocate for those in need.  She enjoyed working with the Habitat for Humanity to find housing.  Mrs. New was something of a local celebrity, selling real estate in Northeast Arkansas for over 30 years, even on billboards.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Jerry New of the home; daughters, Tonya Michele Rogers (Herman) of Marion; Elissa Danette New-Johnston (Andy) of Branson, Missouri; brother, Larry “Sonny” Peoples of Munfordville, Kentucky; sisters,  Harriet “Kay” Ford (Lonnie Wilkerson) of Savannah, Tennessee; Theresa Kalil of Liberty, Texas; grandsons, Brandon Powers (Kandice); Zachary Marsh (Kyla); great grandchildren, Aiden Powers, Emily Powers, and Dylan Powers; and numerous precious nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, loving in-laws and many beautiful friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00, Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Brother Jerry Jolly officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge.  Burial will be at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Brandon Powers, Zach Marsh, David Hunter, Mark Towell Sr., Greg Bain, Keith Pace, Joe Banks and Wade Gay serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Sims and her coworkers and associates at Century 21. Visitation will be Tuesday night from 5 – 7:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel.
