Philip David Thompson, Sr.

Philip David Thompson, 51, of Jonesboro, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2006, at St. Bernard Hospital in Jonesboro.

He was born in Quantico, Virginia on September 5, 1955, son of David R. Thompson and Phyllis A.Thompson of Jackson, Missouri.

Phillip married Vicki Charles of Austin, Texas on June 24, 1978. He was a 1973 graduate of Jackson High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1975. During his 24-year career he served both stateside and overseas. His overseas deployment included Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Provide Comfort in the Persian Gulf.

Among his many achievements, honors, and commendations, most notably he was the recipient of the 1991 United States Air Force NCO Meteorologist of the Year. He also served with Special Forces when stationed at RAF Bentwaters, England and received the Joint Meritorious Unit Award.

He retired in November 1999 as a Master Sergeant.

Following retirement, Phillip lived in Jacksonville, Arkansas where he worked for Office Depot. He later lived in Hot Springs, Arkansas for 3 years before moving to Jonesboro in February 2006 and working for Securitas Security USA as a field supervisor.

A memorial service will be held Monday afternoon, November 20, 2006 at 2:00 at Emerson Memorial Chapel in Jonesboro. Visitation will follow the memorial service.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, Missouri with Rev. Carter Frey officiating. Internment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

McCombs Funeral Home of Jackson is in charge of arrangements in Missouri.
Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro is in charge of local arrangements.
