Paul Edward Poe, 93, of Jonesboro went to be with the Lord with his wife, Joyce, and his son, Mark, by his side at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House on June 6th, 2023.
He was born September 29th, 1929, in Pocahontas to the late D.W. Poe and Birdie Jones Poe. Paul was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church and the Jim Cole Sunday School class.
As a young man, he worked on the farm and at many hardware stores in Arkansas and Alabama. In 1960, Paul and Joyce with their two children, Gail and Mark, made Jonesboro their home. In 1967, Paul founded Control Heating and Cooling. As the business grew, He later added his son, Mark as a partner in the business and after graduating from Arkansas State University, his grandson, Christopher also joined the firm.
Paul enjoyed all outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, camping, and boating on Lake Norfork with his children, grandchildren and their friends. He loved the beach where he spent many vacations in Panama City Beach, Florida. Paul and Joyce also enjoyed taking trips to Branson, Missouri.
He was an avid fan of the Arkansas State University Indians as he was a season football ticket holder since 1965. Paul loved to see Chief Big Track riding his horse around the football and track field after every touchdown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evelyne Wallace and Josephine Pearce; and daughter-in-law, Dyeann Poe.
Paul is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Gail Barker and her husband Kim; son, Mark Poe and his wife Karla; grandchildren Christopher and Sommer Poe, Matthew and Ellery Poe, Laura Poe, Kari Ann Davis, Katie and Corey Frizzell, Paul and Chelsea Preston; and great grandchildren, Caleb Davis, Blakely Davis, Meredith Preston; brothers-in-law, Jim Brewer and his wife Kathy, John Brewer.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ben Owens Jr., Dr. Jack McKee, and Dr. Hugh Sales for their many years of excellent care. We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the many caregivers and nurses at St. Bernard’s Hospice program with special thanks to Camille Barnes.
Funeral Service will be in the chapel at Emerson Funeral Home, 1629 E. Nettleton in Jonesboro on Saturday June 10th at 10:30 am with Brother Jerry Parker officiating. Burial will be held privately at Jonesboro Memorial Park. There will be a visitation at the funeral home, Saturday June 10th, from 9:30 to 10:30 am.
Lasting memorials may be made to Walnut Street Baptist Church or the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.
