Pastor Doug Welborn

August 23, 1952 — February 3, 2019

Pastor Doug Welborn, 66, of Jonesboro went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House.  Doug was born on August 23, 1952 and his spiritual birthday was December 21, 1965.  Doug and his family moved to Jonesboro in 1987 from Dallas, Texas.  He was a member of Cathedral Baptist Church and pastored the church for over 30 years.  Doug was very active in his community and always found a way to say yes when asked to help.  He was a hospital Chaplain, a police Chaplain and a member of many committees and organizations to further the Lord’s ministry including, an original board member for the Ridgefield Christian School, the Jonesboro Ministerial Alliance an active supporter of Gideon’s International.  On one occasion, Mayor Harold Perrin presented Doug with the key to the city.  He was preceded in death by his father, step-father and one unborn child.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Gail Welborn, of the home; son, James Welborn (Crystal); daughters, Pam Slatton (William)  and Shelly Duckworth (Thomas) all of Jonesboro; his mother, Earlene Davidson of Eugene Oregon; brothers, Wesley Welborn of East Texas; Wayne Welborn of Texarkana, Texas; Roger Welborn of Sacramento, California and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Vernon Lies, Ken Beaver, and James Strait officiating and Emerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Burial will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with Wes Thornton, Mitch Doss, Jimmy Ward, Steven Wright, Eric Moore and Chris Haag serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers are the members of Gideon International.  Visitation will be Wednesday night from 5-7 in the Emerson Chapel.
